Lawrence Lucas was the youngest son of Rudd Lucas and Sarah Lawrence. He was born in 1785 in Hitchin, Hertfordshire but eventually ended up farming in Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire and died there in 1857. He was a nephew of Joseph Lucas the Whaler, and inherited Chester House, in Irchester, near Irthlingborough in 1807. [Check this info again from the will.] His other brothers also inherited from Joseph Lucas the Whaler. When his father Rudd died in 1810 he left his entire estate to the to daughters, Elizabeth and Sarah, explaining that his son had been provided for amply during his lifetime and by the terms of his uncles will.
It is so hard to tell all these years later but it does look like Lawrence was the youngest and least well off of the brothers, and then his sisters ended up well taken care of through their father’s will.
Lawrence Lucas married Sarah Prime November 28, 1807, a few months after the death of Joseph Lucas the Whaler who provided for him in his will. The marriage was in Much Wymondley, Hertfordshire, and Sarah Prime is “of this parish”. Still don’t know much about her though.
Their first child, Sarah Lawrence Lucas, was born in 1808 in Knebworth, Hertfordshire. She was followed by Elizabeth in 1810 and John in 1811.
