There are a few Lucas entries but only three Williams. One was 38 in
1859
with wife Elizabeth and son Joseph, the second was 27 and single in
1859
but re-emigrated to Australia or New Zealand, so by far the most likely

I suggest you subscribe to the South Africa mailing list. it's free
and
they are SUCH a helpful bunch. Send an e-mail to
SOUTH-AFRICA-L-request@rootsweb.com with just the word 'subscribe'
(no
quotes or signature) in the body of the text. This subscribes you to
the
list, and they will send instructions of how to put a query on the
list
If you need to get back to me use suemackay@onetel.com I keep the
Virgin
Net address because of the various lookup exchanges I am on, but only
check
it once a week because it gets flooded with junk mail.

Subject: Lookup in "Aided Immigration..."
Hello Sue,
I wondered if you could do a lookup for me in "Aided Immigration from
Britain to South Africa".
This is the information I have:
"William Lucas (b.25 Sept 1840 in England), settled at Rustenberg in the
Transvaal, S.A.V.M. m. 1872, Maria Johanna de Beer and became a
Burgher
of that State. d.28 Oct 1895, and had:-..... " Then it lists
nine
children.
The dates would indicate that he could possibly be in the "Aided
Immigration" book if he had assisted passage. If you could check the
index
I'd be grateful. I'm also not exactly what information is included in
the
publication beyond the indexes, but that can wait til I see if there is a
hit or not.
Thanks very much in advance,
Jane Lucas
